It’s that special time of the year when the comforting scent of roasted turkey and pumpkin pie fills the air, and families come together to celebrate and be grateful. So many holiday traditions and memories begin in the kitchen; from sharing long-loved family recipes to spending an afternoon cooking together, nothing brings people together like food.
That makes this the perfect opportunity to go through Campbell’s 2023 ‘State of the Sides’ Report. Campbell’s surveyed more than 5,000 people with representation from all 50 states to give us everything we need to know about side dishes going into Thanksgiving this year.
According to their findings, 67% of Americans prefer the side dishes over the main entree, and over half said they would be fine with ONLY sides! Maybe we should take the pressure off cooking a perfect turkey and focus on creating a menu with incredible sides? Currently, the average American household serves five side dishes with their Thanksgiving meal; the top three sides this year are mashed potatoes, stuffing/dressing, and mac and cheese. Check out the data viz below to see the top side dish(es) in your state!

Here at Evolve, one of our Thanksgiving food-related traditions is to celebrate by going to The Mule and ordering their November Special: the Tryptophantastic. It’s a legendary sandwich that is only available during November and has been described as being Thanksgiving in a sandwich.
From us here at Evolve, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
