Defining old age can be tricky. Is it related to how you look or feel? Or, is old age defined by a specific number of years? Well, I stumbled on an article that attempts to answer that difficult question.
Unsurprisingly, defining old age is very much a product of the times and the country in which one lives. The technical definition of old age changes with scientific advancements and better access to healthcare. However, there is also one's perception of old age which is harder to pin down.
One of my favorite data visualizers, Nathan Yau of Flowing Data fame, demonstrates how the boundaries of old age have changed since 1930 using a series of incredible charts, animations, and positively wicked-awesome tile-charts. I really like his use of color to highlight the most important data points.
